Once a Month Journal Project – November 2015
I had fun looking back through our nature journals to find pages where we traced objects rather than sketching. This is a simple and non-threatening way to get reluctant journalers to actually create a visual record of an object they study from their outdoor experiences. Use a pencil to outline the shape and then go back with colored pencils to add the details.
Nature Journal Page Ideas:
- Gather several smaller items to trace for your nature journal. Look for a collection of items from one subject like a leaf, small cone, an acorn, or a seed pod from a backyard tree.
- Trace the outline of an item and then use the shape contain your journal writing.
- Trace the outline with pencil and then use watercolors or crayons to finish up the artwork.
- Challenge your older children to trace an item and then fill in with as much detail as possible.
Don’t miss this! I have created a Pinterest Board for journal page examples. I will label each entry with the prompt that describes it best for future reference.

If you don’t include a description using one of the monthly journal prompts, I may remove it. This is not a board to post general nature journal pages. It is strictly for pages created using one of the twelve monthly prompts as part of this project.
