Dutchman’s Breeches and Squirrel Corn Nature Study

Dutchman’s Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria) and Squirrel Corn (Dicentra canadensis) are two early blooming wildflowers you can start to look for during your nature walks in April and May. Both are spring ephemerals and you’ll learn to look for them as the start of the spring wildflower blooming season.

The Handbook of Nature Study teaches us that we will see the Dutchman’s Breeches earlier than Squirrel Corn, so that’s a great help in learning to identify these two wildflowers.
